How coaching is different

Coaching, counseling, consulting, and mentoring all help people grow. They differ in who holds the answers and where the focus sits.

Process Content Problem Solution

Counseling

Process + Problem
  • Focus: Healing and resolving the past
  • Counselor: Diagnoses and guides the healing process
  • Client: Works through past experiences with support
  • Outcome: Recovery and coping

Coaching

Process + Solution
  • Focus: Solution-focused future growth
  • Coach: Listens and asks powerful questions, without giving advice
  • Client: The content expert who sets the direction
  • Outcome: Greater awareness and clear next steps

Consulting

Content + Problem
  • Focus: Business and systems problems
  • Consultant: Analyzes, advises, and holds the solution
  • Client: Receives recommendations to carry out
  • Outcome: Strategy recommendations

Mentoring and Teaching

Content + Solution
  • Focus: Sharing knowledge and guidance
  • Mentor: Teaches, models, and shares their own solutions
  • Client: Learns from the mentor's experience
  • Outcome: Wisdom and skills passed on

My coaching philosophy

Real change happens from the inside out. Think of a tree. The fruit is what people notice, the things you do and the difference you make. But all of it comes from the roots, the parts no one sees, like your story, what you value, and how you see yourself and others. Coaching shines a light both above and below the surface, so growth is lasting and not just a surface fix. Every person has inherent value, the freedom to choose, and a unique purpose. Your path is your own. I won't prescribe it. I'll help you discover it, and you choose where to go.

A tree showing coaching from the inside out: story and values in the soil, head and heart in the roots, identity in the trunk, actions in the branches, and impact in the fruit. SEEN UNSEEN Impact the fruit others see Actions what you do each day Identity where inside meets outside Head and heart how you think and relate Story and values what you believe is true

Lead With Intention

A seven-week journey through the Lead With Intention framework, one principle each week, with the workbook as your guide. There are two ways to take part.

Bring it to your team

Work through the seven principles together with your own team. Shared language, shared practice, and conversations that build trust inside the team you already lead.

About Kyle

Kyle Radcliffe smiling on a beach

I'm Kyle Radcliffe, a Partner at RadiantSail. I started out as a US Army officer, where I learned that leadership is first an act of service. Later, as a project manager, I learned that good leadership depends on clear communication, honest feedback, and the humility to keep learning. Years of living and working abroad have shaped how I listen, how I lead across cultures, and how I help leaders work well with people who see the world differently.

Lead With Intention grew out of those years. It's a practical framework for people who want to lead well, with teams that are often more diverse than the leaders who run them.

Most importantly, I'm a husband and a father to three amazing boys. Home is where I practice all of this first.
